Men’s mental health

Coastal Sands offers a direct, practical, and outcome focused space for men to work through what is going on without the fear of being misunderstood, lectured, or made to feel like something is wrong with them for struggling. Whether it's stress, anger, anxiety, grief, workplace pressure, or something harder to name, this is a place to figure it out.

A direct word

Most men don't have a language problem, they have a trust problem.

The research is clear: men are not less capable of talking about their mental health. What stops most men is not an inability to articulate how they feel it is a reasonable wariness about whether they will be heard without judgment, whether the process will actually be useful, and whether seeking help will be used against them somehow.

Coastal Sands is built with that wariness in mind. Colm Sands works in a way that is direct, practical, and focused on what you actually want to change not on dissecting your childhood, making you feel pathologised, or turning up to open-ended conversations that lead nowhere. If you come in, you will leave with something useful. That is the standard we hold ourselves to.

What we work on

What brings men to Coastal Sands

Men come for many different reasons. Some arrive with a clear sense of what is wrong. Others know something is off but can't quite name it. Both are fine starting points.

Work stress & burnout

High pressure roles, difficult management, job insecurity, performance anxiety, and the relentless grind that erodes energy, sleep, and the ability to switch off.

Relationship & family difficulties

Conflict with a partner, communication breakdown, separation, co-parenting stress, or the quiet erosion of connection with the people who matter most.

Anxiety & chronic worry

Persistent background tension, overthinking, difficulty relaxing, physical symptoms of anxiety, and a sense that the mind won't stop even when there is no immediate threat.

Depression & low mood

Flat affect, loss of motivation, withdrawal from things once enjoyed, and the particular way depression shows up in men often as irritability, numbness, or restlessness rather than sadness.

Anger & emotional dysregulation

Reactive anger, difficulty managing frustration, and the impact that emotional volatility has on relationships, reputation, and self respect. Understanding what is underneath it.

Trauma & difficult past experiences

The effects of past trauma in any form that continue to shape how a man responds to stress, relationships, authority, or threat. Including trauma that was never recognised as such.
