Colm Sands

I founded Coastal Sands Counselling to fill a genuine gap in injury related psychological support on the Sunshine Coast and across Australia. My focus is narrow and intentional: early psychological intervention for people whose recovery is complicated by injury, workplace pressures, or complex claims processes.

My background spans specialist hospital and community rehabilitation particularly with traumatic brain injury, neurological injury, and complex psychosocial presentations. I understand the systems injured workers navigate, and I work collaboratively with insurers, GPs, and rehabilitation providers to keep care coordinated and outcomes clear.

Why early intervention matters

Act early. Recover better.

The psychological response to injury doesn't resolve on its own. Left unaddressed, it slows physical recovery, prevents return to work, and can become a secondary injury in itself.

Reduces the risk of chronic psychological injury developing alongside physical injury

Supports faster, more sustainable return to work and daily functioning

Addresses physical and psychological recovery together, not separately

Lowers overall claim cost and complexity for insurers and employers
